Gimont :
Gimont is a bastide town which was founded in 1265 by the Cistercian monks of the abbey in Planselve. The 14th century church is its main attraction. Its rich architectural heritage includes an old central market, the chapel in Cahuzac, the abbey in Planselve, a historic Capuchin site (old citadel), an old grain market (now the post office), etc. There are also a few museums.  Gimont is the mecca of traditional Gascon cuisine and its world-famous canneries (Comtesse du Barry, etc.) have made it into a stronghold for foie gras.

On the Way of Saint James:
Gimont is located on one of the paths on the Way of Saint James leaving from Arles to Puente la Reina, Spain. Would you like to welcome pilgrims into your new home?

Auch :
The city of Auch is the historical capital of Gascony. Its prestigious architecture may be seen in the cathedral of Sainte-Marie, the monumental staircase, the prefecture (former archiepiscopal palace) and the Tower of Armagnac.

Samatan :
Fifteen minutes away from St Caprais, the municipality of Samatan offers an entertainment centre complete with golf facilities, a lake and more. As well, there is a fantastic market every Monday throughout the year where you'll find foie gras and local products, amongst others.

Multicultural population:
There are 86 residents in St Caprais and 2,825 in Gimont. Gimont is twinned with Blodelshein (Alsace), Louvigny (Lorraine) and Enniscorthy (Ireland). Gers boasts a population of ±175,000 residents including 4,238 non-natives, most of whom come from Northern Europe. The largest foreign community is represented by the British, followed by the Dutch, German and Belgian communities.

Land, sea and mountains:
By car, Gimont is located 80 minutes away from the winter sports resort in Saint Lary and three hours from the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.

Pleasant climate:
In the summer, the average temperature is around 25°C. In January, the temperature drops to around 5°C.

Access and transport:
By car:
7 minutes from Gimont, 10 from Auch, 45 from Toulouse, 80 from Saint Lary (and its celebrated winter sports resort in the Pyrenees), 2 hours from the Spanish border and 3 from the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. In 2009, the new beltway going to Toulouse will be ready. There will be two lanes in each direction and an interchange three minutes away.
By train:
The TGV goes to Toulouse. There is direct TER train service between Toulouse and Gimont.
By air:
The Toulouse Blagnac Airport is 35 minutes away by car.
The Carcassonne Airport is served by “low cost” airlines (Ryanair) and is just two hours by car.

Administration/Shopping/Schooling:
The three villas all face the church and are next to the St Caprais town hall. The baker and the butcher each make two visits a week. Gimont has all the services a small city could offer (market, supermarket, primary school, secondary school, sports centre, medical centre, etc.). Auch is home to the administration (prefecture, public services, tax office, etc.). A large shopping centre, “Les portes de Gascogne”, located just west of Toulouse is planned for 2010. It will contain a superstore, a department store, 140 boutiques and 7 restaurants. Additionally, there will be 4,200 parking spaces.

Events:
- Market in Gimont
- International Jazz Festival in Marciac
- Market in Samatan

Internet connections and telecommuting:
Today, Gers is a “High Speed” region. High-speed lines (ADSL) provide Internet access (in the villas as from December 2007), which is an undeniable asset to the region. It allows users to stay connected to the world via the Internet and above all to create a new way of working – “Teleworking”. Many managers and self-employed people see it as a major advantage for the organisation of work, which favours very high quality of life.
